InterCare is searching for a Lab Technician to join our team!  The Lab Technician performs specimen acquisition, preparation, specimen send out and in house laboratory testing within the health center laboratory and entry into the patient’s electronic health record.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Documents and enters orders and specimens accurately into InterCare’s electronic health record

  • Follows up and reconciles all open lab results including Quest and other outside labs per InterCare policy and procedure

  • Obtains blood specimens via venipuncture and capillary means; prepares other specimens for processing and performs in-house lab tests. Maintains clean and orderly lab space

  • Provides patient education as needed on procedure(s) being performed.

  • Prepares and maintains specimens accurately, including labeling, use of appropriate fixative or preservative, and oversees transportation and storage for referral lab

  • Performs In-house testing; consistently follows manufacturer’s instruction for performing tests. Consults lab manual as needed. Performs only those tests identified as being within the scope of CLIA waived / PPM status

  • Participates as a clinical team member

  • Meets all safety and regulatory requirements

Experience and Skills:

  • Successful completion of an academic course (or combined courses) of study that includes study in fundamental laboratory technology, medical office duties and patient contact related tasks, along with documented satisfactory clinical experience in a physician’s office ---OR--- 1+ years of satisfactory work experience within the past three years including performance of duties related to a clinical laboratory, medical office tasks and direct patient contact.

  • BCLS certification or attainment of certification within 45 days of employment required.

  • Bilingual in English and Spanish required.

  • Strong computer skills; experience with an EHR system, NextGen preferred.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills required.
