InterCare is searching for a part- time/32 hours per week, WIC Technician and Peer Counselor to join our team! The Women, Infant, and Children Supplemental Nutrition Program is a food, education, and nutrition program that provides care and education to our communities.

Work Schedule:

Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday 8:30a-5p.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Performs front desk intake and scheduling functions and utilizes EBT card issuance and inventory practices for front desk area.

    • Accurately gather and enter required certification and intake information.
    • Utilize all aspects of phone and computer communications.
    • Perform scheduling tasks and notify supervisor of any scheduling concerns.
    • Maintain EBT card inventory, issue EBT cards, and assist clients with needs associated with the EBT card
  • Assist with nutrition education entry, nutrition education bilingual interpretation, and benefit issuance
    • Gather nutrition education information and enter into MIWIC.
    • Provide Spanish Interpretation services for nutrition counseling conversations between clients and the RD or Nutritionist.
    • Assist clients with kiosks or with nutrition education through wichealth.org
    • Refer nutrition questions and concerns, or food package questions appropriately.
  • Perform laboratory procedures and quality control measures as specified by WIC policies.
    • Practice all lab and anthropometric processes according to WIC policy.
    • Ensure quality control practices for laboratory are utilized.
  • Counsel WIC pregnant and breastfeeding women and assist with breastfeeding promotional activities.
    • Maintain an active caseload, providing breastfeeding advice and counseling to women by phone or in the clinic.
    • Track and log all client contact.
    • Assist in classes or support groups as needed.
    • Refer clients with breastfeeding questions or concerns appropriately.
  • Assist in making referrals to nutrition, breastfeeding, health, public assistance, and community services as needed.
    • Assist in making referrals to nutrition and breastfeeding support staff and other programs as needed.
    • Ensure specific referral and resource lists are made available to participants.
    • Assist in utilizing the Michigan Care Improvement Registry to assess all WIC enrolled women, infants, and children immunizations status and make referrals as needed.

Experience and Skills:

Required Education and Experience:

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent.

  • Some front desk experience in a medical office.

  • Ability to work effectively and a part of a team with a variety of people, and develop working relationships with site staff, community members, and health professionals.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.

  • Bilingual in English and Spanish Preferred but not Required.

Job duties are performed in a typical office environment with the required ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, frequently sit, and lift up to 25 lbs. This position requires good hand-eye coordinator, reach with arms and hands, and finger dexterity, including ability to grasp and manipulate when using keyboard and various office equipment. Visual acuity to use computer and keyboard, operate office equipment, and read printed material as well as the need to talk and hear.
